I pulled out my light parka this week (aka not the heavy duty antarctica parka). Here’s three ideas for enjoying this short fall period:
1. Enjoy a Bonfire: Have some friends over and have a bonfire in the backyard. Not only does it serve the purpose of toasting marshmallows, but also keep you warm. If you don’t have a fire pit, many civic parks, like Assiniboine and Kings, have fire pits.
2. Scattered Seeds Craft Show: This weekend is Winnipeg’s massive craft show at the Red River Ex Park. Admission is only $7 and it runs Friday from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Scattered Seeds is also celebrating their 20th Anniversary, they have a special celebration on Saturday from 6 – 9 p.m. with music from Jon Bryant (he’s fantastic!), but unfortunately it is already sold out.
Part of admission and proceeds from certain vendors go towards charities that empower women. This year’s charities are Homes for the Holidays, Swazi Market & Timbali Crafts, and The African Market.
Some of my favourite vendors: Coal + Canary, Utoffeea, and Square + Co. (and of course the kettlecorn at the entrance). And some ones I’m excited to check out are Walnut Grove Woodworking, Upcultured, GlamHerBands, and Barbara + Cecile Handbags.
3. Ginger Snaps: We’ve been making these in my house all month. They taste like fall, yes, I know that challenges the Pumpkin Spice Latte, but I’m sticking with ginger snaps. Coming up this month: My favorite recipe for ginger snaps and pumpkin dip. You won’t debate me on this one 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend enjoying this cool weather and the falling leaves.
